The Death and Life of Great American Cities
A contemporary visual interpretation of Jane Jacobs' landmark writing on urban life, community and the human scale of cities.

Making an urban argument visible.
The redesign began with research into mid-century urban development, community displacement and the consequences of top-down planning. Existing editions were studied through their typography, cover systems and use of photography.
Archival images, urban mapping and a contemporary typographic system reorganise Jacobs' ideas for a current audience. The publication emphasises the relationship between everyday street life and community-centred design.
